Surgical heart valve replacement can dramatically improve the vitality and quality of life for sufferers of heart valve disease. A critical element to the success of the procedure is selection of the appropriate replacement valve with consideration for unique circumstances and preferences in each case.

In comparison to other carbon valves available, it will be noticed that the On-X valve is different in several aspects. Each of these refinements has played a role in elevating the valve's overall performance to unprecedented levels.
Because of its exceptional performance, the On-X valve recently became the first carbon heart valve to earn FDA approval for a reduced anticoagulation trial. Through this trial, MCRI is taking responsible measures to establish safe minimum anticoagulant levels for the On-X valve in an effort to improve overall clinical outcomes. Until a reduction in anticoagulants is proven to be safe and is accepted by regulatory authorities, however, patients with On-X valves should continue using standard professionally recommended anticoagulant therapy.
